From Unit 6 to No-Noodle Lasagna

Our English group went on a journey from reading in our English books to cooking delicious lasagna without the traditional pasta. But first things first: How did the idea of cooking in the English lesson come up?
30. April 2024

In our English books there is a unit called "Kids make a difference"; and so we learned about inspiring kids and teens. One of them was Amber Kelley. She's an influencer and chef. We decided to cook one of her recipes called "No pasta lasagna". We were eager to explore a healthier alternative by using zucchinis instead of the traditional pasta. Our English teacher organized the teams and soon we started our cooking adventure.

The aroma of the fresh ingredients filled the air and gave us a taste of what was to come. Boran and David made an excellent job slicing the zucchinis into thin strips, ready to layer them in the baking dish. Weili and Filip pealed the garlic and cut it into small pieces. Fun fact: They pealed so much garlic that we could have cooked lasagna for the whole school. Andi’s and Nour's job was to take appealing photos, Ilayda and Pelin were responsible for the turkey meat and Ali and Valisa probably had the hardest job. They had to cut the onions which made their eyes watery. Daniel and Berdan helped out where they were needed. We all contributed our own unique touch!

After what seemed like ages we gathered around the table and the steaming lasagna was served. The first taste revealed a harmonious blend of flavors. Before we heard about Amber’s recipe some of us had thought that pasta is the one ingredient that turns lasagna into "lasagna". We are still sure that the lasagna would have been much better if it had been cooked by a professional chef instead of teens. Anyway, this experience made us realize that we all have a shared love for food and that there are endless possibilities for a healthier way of cooking.
